5th & 6th Grade Boys Tryouts

2026-27 NUBBA Boys Basketball Season

Tryouts for 5th and 6th grade boys will be held on two Saturdays at the NUBBA Practice Facility. Players should plan to attend both dates.

Why two dates?

Both sessions are for the same group of players. The second date is a second evaluation, not a separate tryout. Two sessions give evaluators a more complete look at each player and help with difficult placement decisions.

How Evaluations Work

NUBBA’s tryout process is designed to be as independent and fair as possible:

  • Closed to spectators & coaches. Parents and coaches are not allowed in the gym during evaluations.
  • Players are evaluated by number only. Evaluators do not receive player names.

How Teams Are Formed

NUBBA typically fields at least one boys team and one girls team at each grade level from grades 3 through 8. If more than 14 players are registered in a grade level when registration closes, additional teams may be formed.

  • Purple and Black teams. For grades 5 through 8, if a grade level has enough players for multiple teams, teams are formed by skill level. When two teams are formed, they are designated Purple and Black, based on tryout evaluations and the number of participants.
  • Competitive levels. Teams compete at the A, B or C level depending on ability. Some teams may start at a lower level and move up during the season. If there is enough talent and depth at a level, two teams may be placed in the same division.

Final placement decisions are made by the Tryout Committee the first week in October. The committee may adjust placements when doing so is in the best interest of the player, the team and the organization. Exceptions to this policy are rare.

Team Announcements

Teams will be announced to families during the first week of October.

Can’t Make a Tryout?

Please make every effort to attend both dates. If your player has a conflict, injury or other issue that may affect attendance, contact NUBBA as soon as possible.
